Dr. Joseph T. Bass, MD
PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department
of Neurobiology and Physiology and Feinberg
School of Medicine at
Northwestern University, in addition to serving as a primary faculty
member of Northwestern's Center
for Cell and Developmental Systems Biology.
A graduate of Yale University and the Medical
College of Pennsylvania (MD, PhD), he completed his residency
at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, and his training
in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Chicago,
where he was the recipient of fellowships from the Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Since joining
the faculty at Northwestern, his research has focused on the
experimental mouse genetics of obesity and diabetes. He is a
principal investigator on several grants from the National Institutes
of Health, including a physician-scientist career development
award. Dr. Bass' long-term research goals are to delineate brain
pathways involved in control of behavior and metabolism, and
to develop high-throughput approaches to identify targets for
anti-hyperglycemic and anti-obesity therapies. |

Dr. Bass has been
invited to speak on his obesity and diabetes research at leading
national conferences, including the Gordon Conference, the Keystone
Symposium, the Endocrine Society, the North American Association
of Obesity, the Japanese Endocrine Society, and the medical schools
of Yale, Columbia, Cincinnati, Alabama, Albert Einstein, University
of Colorado, University of Illinois, University of Chicago, NYU,
Baylor, and the Medical Research Council Laboratories (Mill Hill).
He is a member of the Annual Meeting Steering Committee of the
Endocrine Society and is an active lecturer in both undergraduate
and graduate life sciences courses at Northwestern.
