Isoelectric Focusing Gel Electrophoresis
The PROTEAN IEF Cell system from Bio-Rad performs the first dimension isoelectric focusing of two dimensional electrophoretic proteins analysis. Therefore you can use this easy-to-use instrument to perform the first step of two-dimensional electrophoresis, which is the only method currently available which is capable of simultaneously separating thousands of proteins.
The instrument is used with IPG (Immobilized pH gradient gel) strips, which can in the end be transferred on a normal SDS-PAGE gel in order to perform the second dimension electrophoresis.
In order to use it you just load the IPG strips in the sample trays, and place the tray in the peltier cooled PROTEAN instrument chamber. Add your buffer and your sample (up to 1mg), program your method using the front panel or use one of the preloaded methods and press the start button. Everything else, like rehydration, conditioning, voltage ramping, final focusing and the optional final hold step are automated.
Please find the instrument specifications and the type of IPG strips available listed on the PROTEAN IEF Cell web page
