type of receptor for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine,
found on skeletal muscle cells and some nerve cells. Also
known as the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, it is made
up of a number of protein subunits which form an ion channel
through the cell membrane. The channel is opened by the
binding of acetylcholine to extracellular sites on the
